Jacques Giroux is a Business Development Manager for Space and Defence Systems in ABB’s Measurements and Analytics Business Unit located in Quebec City, Canada. This business unit is part of ABB Inc., a Canadian corporation member of the ABB group that operates in more than 100 countries with about 135,000 employees.
ABB Measurement and Analytics delivers analytical solutions for industrial as well as space and defence applications. Dr. Giroux has worked for this business unit since 1991, at the time when ABB’s space activities were just starting and he has since then been a key leader of ABB’s development in the space business. His experience at ABB spans business, management and engineering aspects of optical instrumentation for remote sensing and Earth observation.
Dr. Giroux obtained a Bachelor degree in Physics in 1981 at Laval University in Quebec City. He did his Masters and PhD in Instrumentation for Nuclear Physics also at Laval University, followed by a Post‐doc at the Max‐Planck‐Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, under an NSERC (Canada) fellowship. Through his career, Dr. Giroux participated on several committees related to the fields of space, optics, remote sensing and Earth observation. He was a member of the R&D committee of INO (National Optics Institute) for about 8 years. He has been involved in research committees with several Canadian universities and industrial committees with the Canadian Space Agency. He represents ABB on the space committee of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC).
