Trends in the Aerodynamic Test Facility Business
Why do we need wind tunnels? Will we still need them as computational capabilities continue to improve?
Our guest speaker is Dr. Gary Elfstrom, a practitioner whose career spans pure and applied aerodynamic research, wind tunnel design through commissioning, setting up a wind tunnel test business, and mentoring of students.
Gary will share some exciting Canadian engineering and business success stories with international impact, in applications such as aeronautical (low and high speed, avian!), automotive (cars, trucks, racing, climatic, acoustic), and industrial R&D. This is the 25th anniversary of Aiolos Engineering, the company responsible for many of these projects. The presentation will also discuss the importance of partnerships between government and university, a perfect example of which is the Ontario Tech climatic/aerodynamic wind tunnel, now celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The talk promises an excellent mix of aerodynamics, business, and personal career twists and turns. Please join us, everyone is welcome. There is a $5 charge for non-CASI members. Attendees are requested to register at: https://casitoronto_2020_02_20.eventbrite.ca
