October 2018 Guest Lecture
Wen Cheng Chong
(Chief Technology Officer, Kepler Communications, Inc.)
All About Kepler
Kepler Communications, Inc. specializes in satellite communications services, delivering affordable global connectivity through its network of small satellites. The plan is eventually to have a constellation of up to 140 nano-satellites in low-Earth orbit, providing high capacity data transfer from remote locations on the planet where terrestrial networks are not available and other satellite communication services are too expensive. Proposed applications include maritime, agriculture, defence, and mining.
Kepler was founded in 2015 by four graduate students from the University of Toronto. The company has grown rapidly, and celebrated the launch of their first satellite into orbit, aboard a Chinese launch vehicle, in January 2018.
Our guest speaker is Wen Cheng Chong, Kepler’s Chief Technology Officer and one of the co-founders. Wen will give an overview of Kepler, its story and its team, technology, and vision. He will discuss what they have achieved so far, as well as the long-term objectives and how they plan to get there.
