CASI ASTRO 2020 Has Been Postponed

ASTRO 2020 together with the Space Situational/Domain Awareness Workshop will not take place from May 24-27 as originally planned.

We are currently looking for alternate dates which we hope will be safely removed from the uncontained threat of COVID-19.

When new arrangements have been confirmed, the Call for Abstracts will be re-issued, new deadlines will be set for abstract submission, for Early Bird Conference registration and for the availability of the Conference Hotel rate.

Meanwhile we are developing on-line sessions in which some of the abstracts that were submitted prior to the May conference will be presented. Stay tuned!

We trust you share our commitment to doing what is necessary to bring this disease under control.

Stay safe - CASI HQ

General Information

ASTRO 2020 is the 20th astronautics conference of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. CASI ASTRO conferences are renowned for offering unparalleled opportunities to delegates from industry, academia, defence and security, and government to meet and network with space sector colleagues from Canada and around the world.

The theme of ASTRO 2020 is ‘Space for Business’. The conference will focus on Canadian capabilities especially with regard to the growing number of small- and medium-sized enterprises. The conference will seek to identify prospects for growth domestically and in the international space arena.

Plenary Sessions

An exciting program will feature invited Canadian and international speakers. Attendees will hear presentations by senior representatives of Canadian industry and academic organizations and Canadian government officials, as well as international space sector representatives. Speakers will explore ways that Canadian organizations can achieve their goals and participate more fully in the international space marketplace, detailing specific opportunities open to Canadian enterprises.

Technical Sessions

Several parallel oral presentation tracks will be offered, as well as a robust Interactive (Poster) session.

Workshop - Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Domain Awareness (SDA)

Canada has growing equities in space with orbital assets contributing to the Canadian economy, defense, security and the progress of science and technology. The Canadian national interest is clearly affected by changes in this newly recognized domain of operations. As such, the field of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) has received an increased profile emphasizing risks posed by the changing security environment. SDA builds on Space Situational Awareness (SSA), but is expanded from orbital catalog maintenance to include “Actionable knowledge to predict, avoid, deter, operate through, recover from, and/or attribute cause of loss or degradation of space capabilities and services”.

Defence R&D Canada is pleased to host a 1-day Workshop aiming to engage Canadians on the topic of Space Domain Awareness with an emphasis on Canadian and global needs for SDA for the upcoming decade. The workshop will be held at the Westin Toronto Airport Hotel on 25 May 2020, the day prior to the ASTRO 2020 conference.
